It feels so good to be in the swing of the photography season after stepping back a little bit over the last couple of months to recharge and spend some time with my crew.   This session with this brand new PBB Family was such a reminder of everything I love about in-home newborn photography.  The comfort level it gives to the family, the personalization of the images, the relaxed environment.

This brand new mom and dad duo couldn’t have been more incredible with each other and with the baby. I was such a deer in headlights the first time I brought a baby home and these two just seemed like naturals in the three hours that we spent together… and I loved the way that they supported each other.

Add all of that together with one of the sweetest babies inside one of the sweetest nurseries… this session was a dream and I’m so grateful to these two for welcoming me so warmly into their home and trusting me to document these first days as a family of three.

I love my job.  And I especially love my job when I get to work with families like this one.  So nice.  So fun. So easy going.   And I was thrilled when Mom announced another baby was on the way for them – and humbled that she and her husband asked me to come back and help them freeze this next awesome moment in their lives.

What I LOVE about this session is – well, of course – that I got to call “cuddling a newborn  baby” part of my job and get to capture him in all of his teeny-tiny handsomeness. And I also loved that we got to document big sis’s personality and the new dynamic between her and her new little sib too.  It’s something that I really love about photographing a family in their own home for newborn pictures – there’s a comfort level that you can’t replace and it helps such beautiful, personal images for the family.  Because … at the end of the day… a newborn coming into the family is just as much about that baby as it is about a growing family.  And I love capturing that.

This session happened back in earlyJanuary and I’m a little late in blogging it – but was too adorable to not share.   This little man couldn’t have been more calm and content as he allowed me to photograph him in all of his peaceful sweetness.   He literally had not a single care in the world the entire time I was there … just sat back and enjoyed his debut in front of my camera … pretty sure he was well aware of how cute he is!  🙂  Here are a few of my favorites …

Cleveland, OH Newborn Photographer | Baby Girl I | One Week New

One of the things that has surprised me the most about becoming a photographer is how connections are built with the people I photograph.   Whether it’s a family I’m meeting for the first time, a family I casually know from photographing them each year, or people that have known me from before I had a camera in their face… the photographer/photograph-ee relationship becomes very personal… because the moments we capture are personal.

And the evolution of my connection with this family has been a really neat thing to be a part of.   We’ve known each other for (8 years is it, guys?!) – but I feel like I’ve truly gotten to know them in these last two years of helping them document their growing family.  Maybe it’s the natural connection that parenthood creates between people, or the uninterrupted time that you have during sessions to talk about real-life things … whatever it is, I can tell you I’m really happy to call these guys my friends.

I photographed their first sweet little soul entering the world two years ago – so when I got the “we’re having another baby” note from Mom I couldn’t have been more excited for them.  They waited to find out if big bro was going to have a little sister or brother until delivery day … and when I got the news, I started packing the bows this time instead of the bow ties 🙂  And my-oh-my did this sweet girl wear them well.

Avon, OH Maternity and Newborn Photographer | Mr. L | One Week New

It’s a really special thing when I have the opportunity to photograph a brand new baby coming into the world for two brand new parents – but it’s that much cooler when I also have chance to capture their last couple of weeks of pregnancy.  Most importantly for the sentiment of documenting such a cool time… but also because I appreciate the opportunity to get to know my clients prior to going into their home and doing such an important session for them.

These guys were pretty amazing to work with.  Mom took a lot of time choosing a photographer and asked all of the right questions when reaching out to me.. and I was really honored to know that she chose to work with me.  Mom knew exactly what she wanted out of these sessions, and we spent some great quality time over email and the phone really talking about what kind of a “feel” she wanted out of her images and what she was going to do with the images afterwards.

Our maternity session fell on a really neat end-of-Fall, beginning-of-winter day – and I loved how the snow settled softly on our background. But these two were the ones that made the session … the chill didn’t stop this Mom from exuding gorgeousness and positivity, and these two from showing how darn adorable they are as a couple…
